Yakult: A Fermented Milk Drink Inspired by the Pursuit of Good Health
Founded on the vision of Dr. Minoru Shirota, Yakult reflects a lifelong dedication to
preventive medicine and global well-being.
Yakult was born from the pioneering spirit of Dr. Minoru Shirota, a doctor of medicine who began
his studies at Kyoto Imperial University (now Kyoto University) in 1921. At a time when Japan
faced widespread poverty, unsanitary conditions, and malnutrition, infectious diseases such as
cholera and dysentery claimed many lives. Driven by a deep desire to improve public health, Dr.
Shirota focused on strengthening the body's natural defenses through beneficial bacteria. His
passion laid the foundation for Yakult—a fermented milk drink designed to support a
disease-resistant body. Today, this founding philosophy continues to guide our global mission:
to contribute to the health and happiness of people around the world.
We are committed to build healthier communities by spreading the power of probiotics in the Middle East region through various sales, marketing activities and public relations.
COMMITMENT
We contribute to the health and happiness of people around the world through pursuit of excellence in life science in general and our research and experience in microorganisms in particular.
